A place to read the word of God plain as word can be — and to study it together at the depth it was written.
Nephi wrote that he gloried in plainness — that his soul delighted in the words of Isaiah, and that the things he spoke were plain, so that no one could err. We take him at his word.
But plainness is not the same as shallowness. A thing can be plainly written and still carry meaning that an English surface reading walks right past. The plainness is in the text. The depth is in the reading. Our work is to close the distance between the two — to arrive at what the words actually say, in the language and the register they were given.
We are not here to argue over the color of the dirt. We are here to excavate what is buried beneath it.
The ancient framework for scriptural reading is PaRDeS — an orchard, a garden. Four levels of meaning, each one true, each one deeper than the last. We do not skip the surface. We begin there, and then we keep reading until the text opens.
Everything we assemble in study is built the way a child builds with Legos — pieces fitted together, held, examined, and just as easily taken apart again. Nothing is glued.
A reading is a provisional construct. We set the pieces in place, we test how they hold, and we leave every joint loose until it is confirmed. We do not reach for the Loctite. We do not seal a conclusion in place simply because it is elegant or because we are fond of it. Only God seals a joint — through revelation, and through fruit borne out over time.
The engine generates. The operator confirms. The Spirit seals.
This keeps us honest. A loose joint can be corrected. A glued one becomes a doctrine we defend instead of a question we keep asking.
Alma did not ask anyone to believe him. He asked them to experiment upon the word — to plant it as a seed, and then to watch. Does it swell? Does it sprout? Does it begin to grow? If it does, the seed is good. If it withers, it was not.
This is our filter for every piece we build. A reading is a seed, not a verdict. We plant it, we let it grow in real lives over real time, and we watch for fruit. A reading that strengthens a person, a marriage, a family, a walk with God — that reading is bearing fruit, and the fruit is the witness.
The seed is tested by what it grows. Nothing is confirmed because it is clever. It is confirmed because it is good, and because the Spirit testifies that it is.
We do not trade opinions. No one's private reading is the authority — not yours, and not the teacher's. We present the verified pieces, we lay the architecture of the text on the table, and then each person takes it to the Lord.
The conclusion does not belong to the cleverest voice in the room. It belongs to the Spirit, and to the person who sought it out and received it for themselves. We hand you the pieces. What you build with them, you build with God.
